It’s Thursday, which can only mean one thing: time for a good ‘ol #TBT. Keep reading for some hilariously awesome pics of some of our favorite actors, pop stars, and comedians!
An actor most people can identify based on his distinct, deep voice alone, Morgan Freeman has looked pretty much the same for years now. He starred in dozens of hit movies, like “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Driving Miss Daisy,” and “Million Dollar Baby.” Morgan Freeman won tons of awards for his work, including Oscars. Something many people don’t realize is that young Morgan actually began out in theater, working in off-Broadway, and then Broadway, shows. Looking at Freeman in his glasses, we can’t help but love the free-wheeling hippie vibe he’s giving off—not to mention some major Jimi Hendrix style. The glasses totally complete the bohemian look and we think Morgan Freeman totally rocks them. That said, as his look has toned down, we think it’s a wise move he’s ditched the frames, which lets his face look softer and eyes nice and bright.
This isn’t a joke. That really is Mr. Champagne Papi himself, Drake, on the left in the oversized jean jacket and oval glasses. We all go through awkward stages, right? We’re gonna have to chalk this one up to some simple growing pains, teenage confusion, and well, just some bad fashion decisions. Drake, the world-selling hip hop star, has grown into a totally smooth, handsome man with fans around the globe thanks to his mega hit albums. If we could time travel, we’d caution him to stay away from anything even remotely similar to those frames and hand him a pair of Acuvue contact lenses just to be safe.
Unlike most stars, Justin Timberlake had to live out his awkward stages – glasses and all – in front of the entire world, cameras flashing the entire time, catching his every ill-advised fashion decision. That said, you know we were all cheering him on, totally in love even then! It’s only with time we can sit back and really see the sticky, curly mess of hair and blue-tinted-oval frames for what they were…oh, Justin. That said, Timberlake was a stud then and he’s a stud now. Grown-up Justin has never looked better. Let those baby blues shine, say no to tinted glasses, Justin!
How could we bring up ol’ Justin Timberlake without ol’ Britney Spears? Once a total pop star power couple (do you all remember the MTV awards matching denim look?), they both flirted with glasses. Spears is still known to rock a similar pair every now and again, but we have to say—doesn’t she look totally fresh-faced and bright-eyed without glasses? Britney may have passed the crown to the Pop Kingdom to new chart-toppers, but she is still looking as lovely as ever, (but really, Brit, you look killer without the frames!).
Jean-Claude Van Damme
We’re really going back with this one. Jean-Claude Van Damme, for those youngins’ reading, was THE MAN in the late 1980s and early ’90s. A Belgian powerhouse, he is a martial artist and trained ballet dancer, though we’re not sure we’ll see him in tights anytime soon. Jean-Claude Van Damme has starred in mega hits like “Bloodsport,” “Street Figher,” and “Universal Soldier.” While his career quieted down for about two decades following the mid-90s, he came back in the “Expendables 2″ in 2012, still buff and ready to kick some butt. As a tyke, Jean-Claude Van Damme was impossibly adorable in his little glasses. But with all those bulging muscles and power moves, we think the frames would just get in the way!
Dan Aykroyd has been making us laugh since his days on the ever-popular “Saturday Night Live,” although, most of us love him for his role in the now-iconic “Ghostbusters.” Even if he’s not so much in the limelight these days, he’s remained consistently acting, whether in guest roles or smaller parts in films. To really tie this #TBT together, Dan Aykroyd starred in “Driving with Miss Daisy” alongside Morgan Freeman. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the role. Dan Aykroyd has always bounced between glasses and contacts, and we love how the funnyman pulls it off. Looking at this older picture of him, we’re sensing some Jim Carey “Dumb and Dumber” vibes happening (likely the hair…). Without the frames, Dan Aykroyd’s eyes are way more expressive—a perfect trait for a comedian and actor!
Matthew Gray Gubler
Hard to believe that lil’ guy on the left would one day become a fashion model, right? Well, looking at him all grown up, it’s no wonder! Matthew Gray Grubler, actor/model/painter/director is best known for his role on the hit show “Criminal Minds.” He’s also been in some great films like “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” and “(500) Days of Summer.” You can still catch Matthew Gray Grubler in glasses now and again, but we think going the contacts route totally works for him. It shows off his incredible bone structure and deep, soulful eyes.
